A Spotty bed Skirt

On the weekend, I finally made a bed skirt for my daughter's bed.  Another project that has been on the 'to do' list for about 2 years.  We recently bought the bird bed linen from Adairs.

A quick visit to Spotlight on Saturday and we had all that we needed to make the bed skirt.  So while I did this

and she did a lot of this

We ended up with a new bed skirt.  I bought a plain white single bed pleated valance that had splits at the end so it would go around the bed legs.  As the bed is an antique and is a lot taller than a standard ensemble bed, I added the pink spotty fabric to the bottom to lengthen the bed skirt, and covered the join with pink ric rac.

The antique brass bed is from Ireland and was already over 100 years old when my mum and dad bought it for me.  I had it re-sprayed and polished the brass before my daughter started using it.

Everytime I look into her room, I see it and think, Oh that's pretty.  Does anybody else do that when they make something?

So another project done, and one very happy little girl (and mum).

  7. The valance is gorgeous - I particularly like the ric-rac embellishment! I've been meaning to make a new valance for my bed since the beginning of the year, but have kept putting it off because it felt like too much work...but now when I see the difference it can make, I think you've helped significantly with my motivation!

  8. It's gorgeous, Kylie! I wish I was talented enough to whip up something like that! Having said that, I totally understand the pride and joy that creeps in when you walk past a space that I've created and think 'I did that!'

So glad that your daughter loves it, and the bed itself is beautiful, too.

  13. Bewtiful job Kylie! I've got an old relic of a sewing machine and it tends to eat more then sew :( I love the height of the old bed - kinda of reminded me of that old movie "Bed Knobs and Broomsticks"

  14. Hi Kylie, I do love a box pleat bed skirt so much more than a gathered one. They just sit so much better. Your daughter's bed skirt looks lovely, must be nice to have another project out of the way! Quite the fan of the ric rac too! Just saying a quick hi and thanks for following my blog! It is always nice to meet another Brisbane Interior loving blogger.
